Laboratory of Population Genetics and Computational Evolutionary Biology

Populations Genetics and Bioinformatics

The LABORATORY OF POPULATION GENETICS & COMPUTATIONAL EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY is a research laboratory linked to the Research Center (NUPEQ) of the UNIVERSITY CENTER OF VITÓRIA DE SANTO ANTÃO (UNIVISA). It was founded in 2018 with financial support from AESVISA and on demand from the Molecular research and bioinformatics group of fungi of industrial interest of UNIVISA (FAINTGEN) and the RESEARCH GROUP ON POPULATION GENETICS AND EVOLUTION (GPOP). Located on the UNIVISA campus, the laboratory develops research in Evolutionary Biology with POPSETS from world DATABANKS and/or obtained in collaboration with other Centers and Researchers. The work boils down to the discussion of themes of classical population genetics, the application of evolving didactics and molecular phylogeny, molecular variance analysis and phylogeography.

Projects

Evaluation of the levels of diversity of HIV-1 virus integration and its possible relationship with the integration of SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19 infection.

Understanding the evolutionary aspects of the biological components involved in the complex drugs VS nuclear import of viral components, helps in understanding how these relationships are established in the deactivation of viral infections.
